As far as I'm concerned you can all go to...

Hill! Speed work this week will consist of hills. We may not climb every mountain but we can run a few. After being "Stay at Home"d for a while, you probably long for adventure, to do the things you'd never dared (like running hills). So seek the courage you've lacked and try this hill workout.

Lets start at the very beginning (a very good place to start). Do some stretching (dynamic and static). Warm-up 1-2 miles at a comfortable pace. Next, run 8-10 hills at a hard pace using the downhill for recovery. You can do the "Octopus" in Oak Ridge Cemetery or some similar type hill workouts in Washington or Lincoln Park.

Here are a few tips for hill running or at least these are a few of my favorite things:

- keep your strides short

- lean into the hill

- use your arms to keep momentum

- keep your eyes focused on the top of the hill

- count down from some number that you think it will take to get to the top.

- imagine a rope around your waste pulling you up the hill

Some hills are so long this will help your fare well.

Good luck with your workout. Since you will likely be running alone with social distancing you might consider headphones. That way you could enjoy the sound of music.

As if all that wasn't enough....

DJA (Dad Joke Alert): They told me I'd never be good at poetry just because I'm dislexic, but so far I've made 3 jugs and a vase!!
