Will the race be held live/in-person or virtual?

Both!  The race is scheduled as a live event; however a virtual option is also available for those unable to attend live.  If the live event is unable to be held as planned, all registrations will default to virtual. We are working closely with staff from the fairgrounds, the City of Springfield, the Springfield Park District and Oak Ridge Cemetery in hopes of hosting the live event; we will keep you posted as additional details are available.

When is packet pickup?

Curbside packet pickup for live and virtual participants will be held on Saturday, August 21, 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Springfield Running Center, 2943 W White Oaks Drive, Springfield,IL.

Is there race day registration?

At this time, no.  Abe's Amble registration is scheduled to close at noon on August 19.

Where do we park for the race?

For free parking as a race participant or spectator, enter Gate 8 at the west end of the fairgrounds.  Additional race day parking options may be listed on signage at the fairgrounds.  Keep in mind traffic is running one way around the fair counterclockwise during the fair.  You will be directed to a parking spot.  Please arrive early as parking traffic can cause some wait time.

Do we have to pay to get into the fair?

No.  Race participants and spectators arriving with them before the race get in free that morning .  If you leave and are planning to return to the fair later that day, make sure you get your hand stamped.

Is there a time limit?

No, but participants will need to move to sidewalks along Sangamon Avenue after the City of Springfield re-opens the roads to through traffic.

Are there medals for this race?

Yes!  Medals will be provided for 10K and 5K finishers and for all virtual participants.  This medal is in addition to the medal awarded to Abe's Army training program participants.

Post race refreshments?

Refreshments for race participants will be available in the Commodities Pavilion near the finish line.
