Abe's Amble 10K/5K - FAQs
Sunday, August 23, 2020 - 7:30 a.m.
Illinois State Fairgrouds - Grandstand
When is packet pickup?
Packet pickup is the Saturday before the race from 11 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Springfield Running Center, 2943 West White Oaks Drive, Springfield, IL. Race day pickup is at the Commodities Pavilion near the starting line across from the Grandstand from 6:15-7:15 a.m.
Is there race day registration?
Yes! Registration is open for in-person registration at both packet pickups. A shirt is not guaranteed, but we will do our best to accommodate.
Where do we park for the race?
For free parking as a race participant or spectator, enter Gate 8 at the west end of the fairgrounds. Additional race day parking options may be listed on signage at the fairgrounds. Keep in mind traffic is running one way around the fair counterclockwise during the fair. You will be directed to a parking spot. Please arrive early as parking traffic can cause some wait time.
Do we have to pay to get into the fair?
No. Race participants and spectators arriving with them get in free that morning before the race. If you leave and are planning to return to the fair later that day, make sure you get your hand stamped.
Is there a time limit?
No, but there might be a possibility that participants would need to move to sidewalks along Sangamon Avenue after the City of Springfield re-opens the roads to through traffic.
Are there medals for this race?
Stay tuned! This race usually does not award medals to finishers that are not also Abe's Army training program participants unless it's an anniversary year; however, we would love to celebrate the inaugural year of adding the 5K distance with a commemorative medal for all finishers. Watch the Abe's Amble Facebook page and the website for updates!
UPDATE!! This year's race will include a special medal for all finishers commemorating the addition of a 5K distance. This medal is in addition to the medal received by Abe's Army participants who complete the race.
Post race refreshments?
In the Commodities Pavilion near the finish line, our sponsors provide water, other drinks and refreshments for participants.
