ABE'S ARMY FAQ

Do I need to join the club before registering?

You must complete club membership prior to joining.  Club membership can be an individual or family membership, and so can Abe's Army.  If you need to check to see if you've already renewed your membership for this year, visit our JOIN page, and click the "check me" button.

I am not currently running.  Would this program still be okay for me?

Yes!  We have a 5K and 10K option, plus groups can walk, do walk/run intervals, or run.  There's a fitness level for everyone, and you can request to switch it up to be easier or more challenging if you want to.  Brand new walkers/runners are welcome!  The program can be tailored for fewer miles--especially if you are walking or using walk/run intervals.  Please check with your physician before starting a new exercise regimen if you have any concerns.

Can my child participate in Abe's Army?

Children under the age of 16 are welcome to join; however, they must be under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian and will be assigned to the same group.

If you have done Abe’s Army in the past, can you do it again or is this just for first timers?

You can do Abe's Army every year and many of our members do!  And we'd love it if you to want to come back again and again!

Is there a walk/run or walking group?

Yes, we have leaders who do a structured walk/run interval, race-walking and walking programs during training.

Who can be a group leader?

A leader must be a club member with a supportive attitude! You must keep in mind that you are there to encourage the recruits and run their pace.

When and where does the group meet?

The formal group runs are on Monday nights, mid-May through August, typically starting from the Fairgrounds Pork Pavilion (by the Grandstand) or the Nelson Center, Pavilion #7, at 5:45 p.m. Participants will be informed about starting location and route before each meeting.  The club also has group runs members can participate in, with or without your Abe's group members.

Where do I park at the fairgrounds?

Parking is available in Lot #21.  Gates 7 and 11 are typically open during these times to enter the fairgrounds.  For a map of the fairgrounds, click here.

How are groups selected?

The first training night, there is a short "sorting" run where runners will be put into groups based on their finishing order.  Walkers can automatically designate the walking group.

What if I am too slow (or fast) for the group I'm put in?

Talk to you group leader to see if they recommend you bumping up/down a group if you feel like your original group is not a good fit for you.  Please do not change groups without notifying your leader.

Are strollers or dogs allowed at group runs?

No, sorry.  For insurance liability purposes, we cannot allow them at the Monday night runs.

I have a question that hasn't been answered here.  Who do I talk to?

Email SRRCtraining@gmail.com.  We'd be happy to answer your questions about the program!

We look forward to running with you this year!
