May 2019 - Club News Briefs
Thank you to everyone who came out to our inaugural Sunday Funday! Based on the feedback, I'm pretty sure we are required to do this again next year! It will likely be even bigger and better! This crew had a point-to-point run in either 5K or 5 mile route down the Sangamon Valley trail to Rolling Meadows Brewery (1.1 miles from the trail). It was warm and windy, but the brews were refreshing when we arrived...not to mention the hydration station on the trail. ;)
Watch the club calendar and Facebook page for upcoming socials in the summer and fall! Mark your calendar for October 19, 2019, when the club will be taking a bus to some breweries in St. Louis.
What's going on with the club this month:
Abe's Army! --- Last week was Abe's Army 2019 kick off for the 10K participants. There is still time to join either the 5K or 10K training group after Memorial Day weekend as long as you aren't concerned about getting an Abe's Army shirt. You will still get all the other perks including training plans/leaders, a free entry into the Abe's Amble race with race shirt, catered picnic and some great new running friends! Fall Social - Save the Date!
This will be an all-day event on Saturday, October 19, 2019. SRRC will be doing a bus trip to some breweries in St. Louis! We realize this is the same weekend as the Springfield Marathon events, but unfortunately, we reserved the bus prior to the date change for the race. Must be 21 or older, and there will be a registration fee. More to come on this later, but mark your calendars now!
SRRC Club Races 2019 - OPEN!
*NEW* Abe's Amble 5K/10K (08.18.19) Time to register for Abe's Amble on August 18, 2019! NEW this year is the 5K option, so please share with all your friends who prefer a little shorter distance race. Abe's Army recruits DO NOT need to pay an entry fee as it was already included in your registration. You will be sent a comp code soon. The 10K race will be an RRCA regional championship in 2019!
Women's Distance Festival (07.13.19) Registration is open for the 40th Annual Women's Distance Festival! Ladies, bring your mom, daughter, sister, cousin or friend! Last year, we had one of the biggest turn outs in the long time, and we think this year will be even better! With the 40th anniversary upon us, we think there will be something special in the works. Register early to guarantee your shirt. There's a kids run, too, so bring out the kiddos!
State Fair Parade Run (08.08.19) Join the SRRC in this state fair tradition! This two mile course starts inside the Illinois State Fair, heads out the front gate along the parade route. Parade watchers line the route and cheer you on! Post-race refreshments and the awards ceremony follow the race in the Ethnic Village, and then stick around for the parade and fair preview night! www.srrc.net/parade
Scholastic Challenge 5K (06.15.19) Flat and fast 5K at Lake Springfield to support local high school running teams. Nearly ALL of the registration fees goes directly to your local school of choice! Click HERE to register!

Group Runs
SPEED!! Did you make it to the potluck?! Speed work has moved to SHG track! Make sure you check out the web page before heading back to confirm details and the workout. Saturday Long Runs! - Now that Halfwits is over, you don't have to miss your running friends! Meet up on Saturday mornings on a rotational schedule at different bike/run trails around town. You set your own distance and pace, and run with people or near people (safety in numbers!). The schedule can be found online here, and on the SRRC Members Group on Facebook, but please check weekly as it's subject to change.
Abe's Army!! - Meetings resume on Monday nights after Memorial Day weekend. So great to see all the 10K recruits this past week. Looking forward to meeting the 5K recruits!! So excited to see what this summer of training brings for you all!
SRRC Invades Indy Monumental, again!
A bunch of club members went to Indy last year to experience the FLAT Monumental Marathon and half marathon courses. We had such a great time, a bunch of us are going back, and this time we're making it a little more official with an SRRC tent at the start/finish area in Running Club row. This will be a great meeting spot so we don't miss out on the other club members who go. It will also be a good meeting place for our cheer zone supporters!

Abe's 50K Throw Down in 2019!
Reminder! Run 50K of SRRC races and get extra bling! We are currently working on the medal design, so if you completed the Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon, you have the longest leg DONE!
You will need to run FOUR specific club races in these distances: 2 miles, 6.2 miles, 10 miles, and 13.1 miles in 2019.
