September 2018 - Club News Briefs
Is it September already?! Back-to-school busyness is here, and summer events are winding down. We keep hoping for some fall-like temperatures for running, but the common theme of HOT is prevailing. Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! Here's what's going on with SRRC this coming month:
Fall Club Social Coming Up!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 29, 2018, as the SRRC will take over Danenberger's Family Vineyard in New Berlin! From 5pm - 7pm, SRRC will provide some pizza for snacking and wine (21 and over) while supplies last. The cost will be $10 and will be limited to the first 50 members who register. We will be sending out the GetMeRegistered link to club members soon.

Triple Crown Challenge - Great job Abe's Army folks on completing Abe's Amble 10K! Lots of hot training conditions this year, but you got through it! Now are you ready to take it to the next level?! Time is running out to register for the Shoreline 15K, which is your last chance to get in on the challenge for 2018. Most Improved Runners for 2018 - Now is the time to start nominating! Who has been making running/racing improvements over last year? Who got a great new PR in the a fair race--or both? We're ready to start taking nominations for MIR2018! Nominations are open through the Monday after Frostbite. To learn more about this annual award, visit the SRRC website: www.srrc.net/mostimproved
Volunteering
The SRRC board of directors is looking for a couple of people to held lead the club in 2019. Two long-time directors will be stepping down after their term is up in 2018. We will need to fill the Equipment Coordinator/Race Liaison position and also a Member-At-Large position. If you are interested in either of these, please contact Nick Fogleman at sn95nik@gmail.com.
Don't forget that volunteering for at least two club races is a requirement for qualifying in the SRRC Points Series and you get participation points as well. Since this club operates completely on volunteers, we appreciate your help! The registration for volunteering for Frostbite isn't officially open yet, but feel free to email the race directors for early dibs at a spot: frostbite10mile@gmail.com
217 (2RUN7) Shopping!
Hey! SRRC now has an online store! By popular demand, we've opened back up for pre-orders on 217 running shirts and added a hoodie option. Orders must be placed and paid for by September 30, 2018. Please allow 4-6 weeks after the deadline to receive your items as these are custom orders. It will take time for processing. We will email everyone once the orders are ready for pickup. We anticipate it would be in late October or early November before they are ready. You should need a hoodie and long-sleeved shirt by then!
We love seeing our "team" jerseys all over town!

Member-hosted group runs
The rotational Saturday morning group run schedule is posted to the website for 2018. The runs are self-starting and you pick your own pace and distance. There's usually a good number of runners (and sometimes walkers) that if you want to join up with someone running your pace, you can usually find someone. But if you prefer to run alone, it's still good to run on the trails with other runners nearby. There's safety in numbers! All are welcome! Come introduce yourself! The trail schedule can be found here: www.srrc.net/group-runs
Wednesday night speed workouts are underway starting at 5:45 p.m. through October. Check the website weekly for information on the workout and location (Washington Park or SHG track). Do not feel like you have to be fast to do speed work. "Speed" is completely relative to YOU and your abilities! www.srrc.net/speedwork
Thursday night 5K (5:45 p.m.) @ Springfield Running Center. Check out their Facebook page for group run details.
Those don't work for you? Post up on the SRRC Members Facebook page to see if there are other groups you can join!
